- Like most horror fans, we are in love with the 80s. We have been working for a long time to get one of the decade’s true Masters of Horror to come to Oppdal, says festival director Morten Haagensen.
Yuzna's debut film was Re-Animator from 1985. You can hardly find a list of "the best horror movies from the 80s" without this film. When Yuzna met director Stuart Gordon, Gordon had actually planned to make a TV series, but Yuzna convinced him to make a film instead. The rest of the story you will hear at Oppdal when you now have the opportunity to watch the movie in the cinema with Yuzna present!
Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon worked well together and we got both "From Beyond" and "Dolls" by the end of the 80's. Yuzna was also the screenwriter and co-producer of the family film "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" in 1989!
After a few years as a producer, it was time to direct. His debut film became the somewhat different and very distinctive horror classic "Society". This movie also features on countless lists when the 80's horror film canon is put together. What is often highlighted is it’s unique ending. We will of course not spoil it for those who have not seen it, as we will screen "Society" as well during Ramaskrik!
After "Society", there was a period of several directing jobs. He did both sequels to "Re-Animator", "Bride of Re-Animator" and "Beyond Re-Animator", but also films such as "Return Of the Living Dead 3" and "The Dentist". Yuzna continues to be a producer, screenwriter and director, often in collaboration with Stuart Gordon and actor Jeffrey Combs. He has made a big impression in the horror world and we are thrilled to screen both "Re-Animator" and "Society" with Yuzna present.
- We are talking about a witness, a filmmaker who can tell, and show us how it was to create film history in the 80s. Brian Yuzna will be present throughout the entire festival October 17th - 20th 2019, says festival director Morten Haagensen
